What is authorization?

  • What is the authorization?

Credit card authorization is a verification to ensure that the customer has enough funds in their account for the purchase. If the customer card details are correct and there are enough funds for the purchase, the specific amount is placed on hold till the purchase is complete and the funds are deducted from the customer’s credit limit.

  • For what we can use the authorization?

Authorization is generally used by hotels to block a customer’s card when they check-in, but to only charge the full amount when they check out.

It’s also sometimes used by e-commerce stores instead of refunds since they can block the amount for the purchase and only charge a customer once they receive the purchase and are satisfied with it. This way the authorization can be canceled instead of refunding the amount to the customer in case they’re not happy with the purchase.

  • What is the authorization time limit?

We can block the amounts from customers' cards up to 7 days only.

  • Is it available to track my authorization transactions using my Tap Dashboard?

No, unfortunately the Authorization Transactions doesn't appear into the Tap Dashboard.

You can have a more detailed look at our authorize API within our documentation page and create an authorize request yourself to view the response.
